Lights - Poem

My eyes are a drought in the desert

There is no liquid even for the tears of pain

The lights that allow me to see this world 24/7

From the sun during the day

To artificial white lights when the sun fades into the night

Are the very lights that overwhelm me

And rapidly empties my sensory tolerance tank

Regeneration rates diminished by rapid use of energy funds to survive

I don't want to keep eyes open

Taking in more than I can handle

At the edge of a cliff

A complete nervous system collapse close by

Holding on through ten second respites every minute

Counting the seconds on each finger

Each second wishing to escape the nightmare of reality
