Confronting Fear - Poem

There are shadows within the light of the darkness

Reflecting the parts of me that cannot be hidden

Not within the confines of my mind

Outrunning fear in my own mind

Is near impossible

How do you outrun something residing within you?

An undesired but welcomed seat at the table

It is what speaks against denial of reality

It is the fuel for shedding old skin

Fear is treated as the enemy

But it’s a friend in disguise, wanting the best for me

An opportunity to grow

Fear does not trap me

It is the perception of fear that traps me

Unused fear is unused fuel

Changed perception of fear

Shifting from ‘I can’t’ to ‘Why can’t I?’

That is a reclamation of power

In what I thought to be a helpless situation
